Cross country is a competitive team and individual sport offered in the fall for students in grades 3 through 8. A great thing about Cross Country is that everyone competes! ALL athletes get to participate because there are no cuts or disqualifications.
St Veronica will have three race division with boys and girls racing separately – making a total of six teams. The breakdown of division by grade is provided below:
Division Distances
Freshman/Frosh: 3rd-4th Grades 2K (1.24m)
Junior Varsity: 5th-6th Grades 3K (1.86m)
Varsity: 7th-8th Grades 4K (2.49m)
Developmental:
There are two developmental Meets (see Key Dates above). The developmental Meets will provide individual results only – not team results. They are designed to be low key and fun. However, individual runner scores are used to determine individual awards at the championship Meet.
Championship:
The Championship Meet team score is determined by totaling the points scored by the first three finishers of each team.
Individual Saint Sebastian Awards are also presented to the top runners by grade and gender – for the lowest cumulative time for all three Meets. Therefore, for your child to qualify, they must attend all three Meets.
All Practices are from 3:15-4:30

Parents & volunteers need to fill out the following forms, sign and turn into the coach in order to participate in practices and events.
Water: Your runner should come to school with enough bottles of water to keep them hydrated. Students will be given a chance to fill their water bottles before they leave for the field. As running is a demanding sport and the weather can still be very warm, we ask that you bring enough water for your child for each practice. This may mean bringing multiple water bottles to be filled prior to leaving for the field.
Shoes: A pair of well-fitting sneakers are acceptable for cross country. Some parents may choose to go to a specialty running shoe store, but this is not required.
Weather appropriate clothing:
Hat: as much of our time is in the field, a hat can be very helpful on sunny days.
Sweater: as the weather cools, a sweatshirt might be desired.
Rain: unless there is lightning or the fields are unsafe, we will run in the rain.
What not to bring:
Electronics: If it is not allowed at school, it is not allowed at practice. Cellphones, ear buds, etc. are not permitted at practice.
